Did you receive an email from LinkedIn this week congratulating you on having one of the top one per cent most viewed LinkedIn profiles for 2012?
LinkedIn conducted a marketing campaign by sending out emails to users whose profiles were in the top one, five and 10 per cent most viewed in 2012.
It created online buzz. Many LinkedIn users posted about their LinkedIn percentage on other social media sites, effectively spreading LinkedIn’s message to a wider audience.
Mashable states that with 200 million LinkedIn members, people in the one per cent were still one of two million other people. People in the top five per cent were one of 10 million and people in the 10 per cent category were one of 20 million people.
A LinkedIn representative stated it’s beneficial to be in the top one or five per cent because it means you are engaged on LinkedIn. The more engaged you are on LinkedIn the better connections you will gain, which can help when you are looking for a new job.

Share interesting content
By posting interesting articles and tips on your LinkedIn profile other people will be more likely to comment or share the post to their networks.
Don’t just wait for people to engage with you, go out and start commenting on other people’s profiles. Once you make the first move you will find other people will start to interact with you.
Use LinkedIn suggestions
LinkedIn’s ‘People you may know’ feature is located on the right-hand side of your homepage and allows you to quickly scan users and send invitations to link with you.
You can use this feature to grow your connections and build a larger network to communicate with.
Join a LinkedIn group
Joining a LinkedIn group is a great way to find new connections and increase your engagement on LinkedIn. You can contribute valuable information to the group to spark discussions between members.
Connect with someone in the one per cent
Connect with LinkedIn users whose profiles are in the top one per cent most viewed in 2012. This will allow you to see how they are using their profile to gain some valuable tips.
By following these tips you may just find yourself in the top one per cent next year!
